Robin Hobb is most famously the author of the Farseer trilogy and the subsequent books set in the same fantasy world. She is also the writer known as Megan Lindholm who tells alternative, urban fantasy and sci-fi stories. My very humble opinion is that she's the best thing to have happened to literature since J.R.R. Tolkien.
