• Talitha Cumi is Aramaic for "Little girl rise". The phrase is used in the Bible (Mark 5:41), spoken by Jesus when he raises the young daughter of a Jewish leader from the dead.
• Herrenvolk is the Nazi/German word for "Master Race" - Hitler's plan for creating a world of perfect, blue-eyed blond people.
• The episodes play homage many times to The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky.
• 1121 makes two appeareances. Once when Mulder visits his mother in the hospital, the time at the bottom of the screen is 11:21PM. The other one is when Scully finds the multiple pictures of Mr. Smith on her computer, the time at the bottom of the screen is 11:21PM. (the 21st of Nov is Chris Carter's wife's birthday.)
