The X-files (1998)

Written by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz and directed by Rob Bowman, the X-files movie was filmed between season 4 and 5 and released between seasons 5 and 6 of the television series. Music was scored by Mark Snow and the premiere was on June 19, 1998.

The filmmakers went to great lengths to preserve secrecy, including printing the script on red paper to prevent photocopying, and leaking disinformation to the media. The working title for the movie was Blackwood.

Like practically every episodes of the series, the movie is full of "inside jokes" and references. Examples include the use of the numbers 1013 and 1121 (Chris Carter's production company named after his birthday is Ten Thirteen productions, 21st of November is his wife's birthday) and the cornfield chase scene which is a reference to North by Northwest.

random quote

Scully: Why did they assign me to you in the first place, Mulder? To debunk your work, to rein you in, to shut you down.
Mulder: But you saved me! As difficult and as frustrating as it's been sometimes, your goddamned strict rationalism and science have saved me a thousand times over! You've kept me honest. You've made me a whole person. I owe you everything... Scully, you owe me nothing.
I don't know if I wanna do this alone. I don't even know if I can ... and if I quit now, they win.
