About White wagtails

The White Wagtail, Motacilla alba is a small grey/white/black-coloured bird with a long, constanly wagging tail. It has a very distinguishable sweeping flying pattern. These birds weight around 20 grams and can live to at least 12 years of age. They are quite common in many parts of Europe and Asia and have a toehold in Alaska as well. White wagtails migrate to Africa. They favour open grounds and prefer to be near water but can also adapt to live in urban environments.

White wagtails have always been my favourite species among birds. They might look small and dull compared to other bigger and more colourful birds, but it's their cheerful nature and delightful movements that have capture my heart. They are also heralds for summer here in Finland where they usually arrive in April.
